Last year I worked for a web design company that provided graphics to online stores. It was the beginning of my huge obsession with buying on-line. I worked there for over 8 months and in that time I did most of the advertising on-line for the company, that is when I discovered the great stores that are available on the net. At first I tried to ignore them and move on with my work but was I was working I would eventually get a pop-up with an irresistible offer and I would click them. That's how it all began and now I am a slave to buying on-line.
It started off slowly, I would be working and I would see a site that was advertising on-line for a huge weekend sale of 50 percent off. I would say to myself that I was just going to check it out real fast and go into the site. I would make a purchase here and there, nothing major.
After a few months I began to see how my buying on-line was becoming a big problem, I began sending in late payments on my credit cards and was paying my utilities late. My boss replaced my position and instead of advertising on-line I was sent to customer service where I was on the computer all day long. Of course this only made things worse.
My job there was to answer any questions whenever a customer request would pop-up on my desktop, sometimes I was so busy surfing the stores that I would miss a customer pop-up and I began to get complaints that I was not giving good service. My boss began getting upset with me and slowly but surely my duties were cut back unto I finally had to leave the position.
Right now I am temping at a new place where I am not online at all during work hours and by the time I get home I feel like a crack addict who hasn't gotten their fix. I think I am going to have to look for some type of help. Like a shopping anonymous or maybe a therapist. I can't go on like this much longer.
