If you want to begin selling on-line, then first of all you will need a domain. You will have to pick a server for this domain, and possibly bring in a web designer to designer your website for you if you are unable to do it yourself. Once you have got your server, domain and website design sorted, then you are ready to sell something. Simply advertise the items on your site that you would like to sell. You can sell anything from concert tickets to a salad server. Fromcrafts you have made, to a car.The easiest way to receive money that people pay for your items is by paypal. Have peoplethat are buying on-line from you, payyou by paypal. This way, they will know that it is a safe way to pay, and are more likely to start buying on-line from your site. It is also very clear and convenient to use, so it will benefit yourself as well. Your site will need lots of advertising to attract customers. There are many websites that people are already buying on-line at, so yourse needs to stand out to steal their customers, and attract some new ones of your own.You can advertise using a variety of methods. Your method should be appropriate to what you are selling. If you are selling tickets to a rock gig, then you should advertise on social networking sites such as twitter, facebook or myspace. This is easy to do, as an advert can be placed on your profile, and you cansend bulletins to alert all your friends. You can also ask friends to post a bulletin to their friends about your site, and quickly the word will spread. If you are advertising something such as fishing rods, then why not advertise on a fishing forum. A forum is also good for spreading the word about your products, as the people reading your advertising posts are interested in the subject area of your product, and are able to easily contact you to find out more. Which ever way you decide to advertise your site, make sure you consider your market audience, and don't let down any customers you have.

She looked at the screen, which said 'beginning download' and thought nothing of it. These sorts of things happen all the time, so why should she. This was a perfect time to send a message to her after work date, who wasn't near a computer at the moment and didn't have web access, so instant messaging her was the only option. Besides, it gave her a break from staring at the computer screen. 'Hey, have you come up with a solution yet?', was the message she sent. She had a feeling that Joan wouldn't write her back right away, partly because she wasn't too keen on instant messaging, and partly because the problem wasn't going to be easy to solve. They had really dug themselves in deep this time. She thought once again though to herself, 'who doesn't give their employees web access'. That place must be a prison to work in.

Joe was doing a course on web designing at college. He was 17 and in his first year. His task was to design a website that will load quickly on even the slowest computer, be accessible by broadband, and immune to spam. Joe rubbed his hands together gleefully and set to work. He switched onthe collegecomputer, checkedthe broadband was on, and waited for it to start up. Something was wrong. The screen was flickering a strange blue colour, and not showing what it was meant to display. Confused, he looked round the back of his computer, where a hand was just disappearing from view. Joe stood up. The computers were arranged in rows back to back. At the back of his computer was the back of another, and sitting at that computer was Floyd. Joe groaned. Floyd had been picking on Joe since year 7, and Joe had thought that starting college would make him grow up abit. But no, it seemed that Floyd had just sabotaged Joe's computer. Joe decided to switch computers rather than make a fuss. The next one turned on properly, but would not connect to the broadband. Trying to keep his temper, Joe tried the next computer. The rest of the class had been working while this was happening, so they all had a head start. Gritting his teeth in frustration, Joe tried the third computer. This time, he was far away enough for Floyd not to be able to reach, so everything went smoothly. Joe relaxed. It was ok now, he would just carry on as normal. He brought up the programs and files he needed for his project, and opened his college email account. He was busy with the other windows and did not notice the files that were being downloaded onto the computer from thespamin his email. He only noticed when the virus shield turned red and informed him that a bug was attacking the whole college system originating from his computer. He was about to look up to see if his teacher had noticed when a heavy hand fell on his shoulder and told him to wait outside for a moment. Joe's gut filled with dread as he realised the teacher will think it was him deliberately infecting the whole system. When his teacher confirmed his suspicions, Joe told him about his own. He was suspicious that Floyd had sent him the spam to frame him and get him into trouble. Unfortunately, now the whole system was down, it could not be proved. As Joe waited outside the classroom for his teacher to finish dismissing the class and to outline to him exactly how much he would have to pay to repair the system, Floyd walked past. He grinned the same old evil grin the Joe had first seen when he was 11, and walked out of the room. Joe sat with his head in his hands. This had not been a good start of college.

I decided I wanted to have a website. Just a small one, so I could put some pictures up of my crafts, and maybe sell some. I make things out of wood. Things like children's 3D jigsaw puzzles, I carve out all the pieces myself and put the whole thing in some more carved wood, in the shape of an apple for example. I also carve wooden children's clocks, like in the shape of Winnie-the-poo. I sell them at craft fairs, and a lady that visited my stool suggested I start up a website. So here I am, sitting at my ancient desktop computer with the shoddy connection, trying to find good website designers on google. The problem with this, is that the desktop makes it hard to update. If I had a laptop then I could take it with me where ever I went, and add things to the website constantly. This rubbish desktop pc is at least 10 years old. It's really slow. That's another problem -my connection is really dodgy, and everything loads really slowly. I don't know much about the Internet, but I'm hoping that just because I'm starting this website with a slow connection, doesn't mean it will load slowly on other peoples computers! Google isn't being very helpful either. I want to find someone that can design my website for me, because as I say - I don't know much about the Internet. All my search results are turning out links for companies that charge a fortune! I'm sure there must be a way to get a free site. All the teenagers seem to have them, so there must be a free one! I can't see them spending £50 a month on a website. Maybe ill try a different search engine. Does that bring up different results? I'll give up with google and try yahoo instead. I've been trying to do this for hours and I'm not getting any closer. Maybe I should just stick to selling these things at fairs. People probably wouldn't find my website anyway - its not as if I know how to advertise it. What happened to word-of-mouth anyway? That's how I used to get advertised. Yes, I'll reply on that instead. I have a good reputation built up anyway. I'm somewhat of a celebrity at my craft fairs.

My name is Halie. I am6 years old. My Daddy is very clever. He is always on his computer. He does website designing. He also is an Internet programmer, I think.I know he is a programmer of something anyway. My Daddy is very good and buying on-line things as well. He is so good at it, that all the toys I get at Christmas are things he got from buying on-line.My Daddy is very clever. My Mummy doesn't think so. She thinks that when he is on the computer he isn't buying on-line or being a programmer. Mummy thinks Daddy is doing Internet dating. I don't know what that is, but I think its something like a calender on your computer. I don't know why Mummy is so bothered about Daddy being on an Internet dating calender. Maybe he just doesn't know what day it is! Mummy said I shouldn't go near Daddy's computer because of this internet dating thing. She says that I might find some pictures of some naughty people that have no clothes on. I don't know why they would be on Daddy's computer. It proves that he isonly looking at a calender though. One day when Granny took me shopping at the seaside we saw a calender that had naughty people with no clothes on. They were firemen and Granny pulled me away very quickly and said I'm not allowed to see. Maybe Daddy bought the naughty fireman calender and that's why I'm not allowed to go near the computer. Mummy goes near Daddy's computer though. She says shes allowed to because shes a grown up, and is allowed to see the naughty people with no clothes on. I don't think she is allowed to though, because every time she goes on, she asks me to go and talk to Daddy. I have to do this so he doesn't see that shes on his computer! I think Mummy's being much naughtier than Daddy looking on his computer without asking! All poor Daddy has been doing is looking at a calender that tells you the dates when you're on-line! I don't see what all the fuss is about.Grown upsare very silly.

I used to work for a web development company. I was always networking at home and using the PC to sell things on an on-line auction so I thought web development would be a good path for me. I am now retired but still very much into networking and using various on-line auction sites to sell goods and occasionally to buy goods. I like to dabble in antiques and my friend is an antique dealer so I buy a lot of antiques cheap on an on-line auction to give to him to sell, and we have got a nice little earner going between us both.

The internet is famous for one thing, and one thing in particular: information. And not just information - information overload. The web has often been called the information highway. And, just as often, the fire hydrant of information - as in trying to take a sip from a fire hydrant.

A good friend of mine, Aron, studied computer science during his Bachelor's degree. He was very good and skillful with computers. We have been good friends since high school. We even got into the same university. However, we majored in different fields as he likes computers while I prefer chemistry. Upon graduation, he applied for a job as a programmer in a well-known web design company after he saw an advertisement on-line. His has been a good student all these while and has obtained very good academic results. Thus, he immediately got the programmer job after the first interview. And as for me, I went on to become a chemist with a city hospital.
